Notes from the Studio

  1. When I travel, I am often compelled to photograph unique buildings or structures. Sometimes they speak to me with a strong American style, other times I just see an aesthetic or composition that appeals to me. The places are full of history. The photos below were taken in Charleston, South Carolina. It was so hot and humid I had to drive with the air conditioning off. If I didn’t the camera lens and the P65+ digital back would fog up as soon as I stepped outside into the hot air.

  2. I’m off to South Carolina for vacation and I’m bringing a couple of things with me. My wife walked by, took one look at everything and said, “aren’t we going on vacation?” I guess I don’t need all of this to relax on the beach—but you never know. Missing in the photo is the Canon G10, which took this wonderful snapshot-looking photo. I’ll try to post photos from the road if I can.

  3. Sorry this post is no longer available.

  4. Opening day at WWDC ‘09, I was hired to take a time lapse movie of the iPhone app store display. It’s a wall of monitors that displays 20,000 iPhone apps. Each time an app is downloaded from the iPhone app store, it’s icon blinks. The time lapse was taken to show how people interacted with the display throughout the day. I’ll upload the final time lapse movie here when I have it completed. For now I’ve posted a photo of my setup.

  5. I was on location this week here in San Francisco. I’m always intrigued by the amount of multipurpose donut stores I come across. Chinese food and donuts are an odd combination. Below is a donut store near Japan town.
